Bad Behaviour                   back to top

On a less positive note, we had a few incidents on the showground that have spoilt the day for many members and competitors. We received a phone call after the show from someone who complained of having to witness a pony being whipped several times whilst outside of the ring. Although this has not been witnessed by any of the committee members it would certainly represent undesirable behaviour. It was also drawn to the committee's attention that there was quite a lot of loud, bad language on the day and we would like to remind competitors that showing is a family based event and we would be grateful if you could all conduct yourselves accordingly.
An issue that was raised by many was the amount of 'outside assistance' being used to affect the performance of in-hand Cobs. This assistance effected many competitors who were showing their ponies in adjacent rings. Therefore we would like to remind competitors that the WPCS rules state (from the WPCS website)

2.1 Exhibitors should conduct themselves at all times in an orderly, polite manner as they represent the Welsh breeds and consequently the WPCS. Bad language is not tolerated under any circumstances whether to fellow Exhibitors, Owners, Producers, Judges, Stewards or Show Officials. Bad behaviour brings the Society into disrepute

2.13 The use of any artificial aid (e.g. plastic bags, excessive use of whips, drink cans etc.) to excite the animal being shown is not acceptable and may be subject to penalty, including being asked to leave the ring.

The worst of the complaints related to fighting outside the rings an din the lorry park. There is absolutely no excuse for this and the committee would like to ask those concerned to leave their differences at home. The EWPCA have a very good relationship with Ashfields and it has been one of our better Summer show venues, it would be a shame if circumstances meant that we could no longer hold our show there. We would like to remind you that an awful lot of hard work by many people goes into running and organising the show and it is unfair to expect the committee to deal with fall out of such incidents.

Please remember that showing is an expensive hoppy these days and we want our members and competitors to have an enjoyable and peaceful day.

Conformation Teach In     back to top

Hi All,

After being asked by several people I am organising a conformation teach in.

It is on the 29th January, at the Lion Hotel, Builth Wells. Tickets are £12 each, inclusive of lunch. There are also special rates for anyone wishing to stay overnight.

It is aimed at anyone who wants to learn and those thinking of taking the judges assessment.

I have attached a poster and further information. I would be very grateful if you would inform you members and possibly display the poster at any event or foal show you may have coming up.

This is not being organised by the Welsh Pony and Cob Society, but by myself and Adam Patterson – owner of the Lion Hotel. I have written to Council to ask for their backing. We hope it will be a success.

Thank you

Regards

Joanna Sheil

Ceredigion Stud Visits and Evening Event at Menai Stud   back to top

As you will be aware I’m sure 3 studs are opening their doors on 19 June 2010 in order to raise money for ‘Sioe’r Cardis’, as Ceredigion is the Feature County of the RWAS this year.  The day will commence at Pennal Stud before moving on to Trefaes Stud and concluding at the Menai and Friarly Studs.

Following the visit there will be an evening event at the Menai stud, Pantydefaid with Mr & Mrs Peter Jones, at 7.30pm.

This event will include a 2 course roast buffet meal, comedian, auction and music.  We have received many enquires as to the evening event from those wishing to make a whole day of it, and write to clarify the situation, that is, due to the fact that a 2 course meal will be provided, the caterers wish to receive numbers for the event and as a result tickets must be purchased before hand for the evening at £15.

For members of your association wishing to attend this excellent evening event we would request that they contact either Mr & Mrs Peter Jones directly on 01545 590 503 or the event secretary on 01570 480 599 in order to avoid any disappointment if they were wishing to attend the evening reception as well.

You are also welcome to respond to this email

I would be very grateful if you could pass this onto your membership

Kind regards

Nicola Davies
