Young Judges Competition
Unfortunately Jessie Apicella and
Elizabeth Caley were unable to represent us, as
they were competing else where and Demi Hunt
also withdrew due to family illness.
Whilst the withdrawals were too late for us to
contact the runners up from the qualifying
competition with an opportunity to go to the
Championship Show, we are grateful that a young
man from Australia, Michael Gates, competed
under the EWPCA banner and took second place in
the 19-25 year old group. ~ Congratulations to
Michael on behalf of the EWPCA.
If anyone aged 10 to 25yrs would like to
participate in this competition in the future,
please contact the Spring Show Secretary
(Shirley 01920 871202 or e-mail
sbroadfield@btinetnet.com), no later than
31st January 2009 to enable the committee to
make a decision on the future of the qualifying
round.
Open day at the Colne Stud
Although the weather was inclement which reduced
the numbers in attendance, all had a good time
and we thank Ann and Alan for inviting us to
their home once again.
Eastern Area Map in the WPCS Journal,
To date, Tony has received only five responses.
With so many beautiful ponies and cobs being
bred in our area, we are sure we can make our
area map one of great interest, it will only
cost you £8.00 as individuals, a great
inexpensive way to promote your stud, please
contact Tony on 01223 424060 for more
information.

SUCCESSES AT SOME OF THE MAJOR SHOWS
Although I have not heard from any of you (how
modest you all must be) I’ve noticed from
results that I have seen that Ceri Fell’s
Parvadean Delight was Supreme Welsh Champion at
Solihull and was also reserve M&M Champion at
Suffolk County. EWPCA members Mr & Mrs
Surman and Mr Deller took the Welsh Champion and
Reserve at Herts County with Waterings
Dunlightly and Oakmill Angels Kiss respectively,
the Thistledown Stud’s Cottrell Lara won the
Cuddy qualifier at South of England and the
Wilkinson Family picked up a Silver Medal at
Cheshire County with Popsters Ricochet.
Well done to you all and I am sure many more of
you have had major successes that I do not know
about but I would love to share them with EWPCA
if you let me know.

News from Pauline from Oakmill stud
Oakmill Llywelyn
Our young stallion has once again
stepped up the mark in the show ring !
This time in harness.
Jessie Apicella is producing and driving Lewie
with fantastic results - 5
outings with 4 wins and a 3rd at the Royal Welsh
!!
Last Sunday we were all delighted when Lewie
qualified for the Osbourne
National Championships !
News from Nicole Musson
Thorndon Park Jet at the grand old age of 17 has
qualified for HOYS in the ridden M&M final. He
won his class at Border Union in Scotland.
He has been back home carrying out his stud
duties, came back to me 2weeks before and
qualified on his first attempt. After having a
run of 2nds last year and coming so close but
missing out, we are all over the moon and cant
wait until October!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS
At the WPCS AGM, Mr Tony Tilley was elected
Honorary Life Vice-President of
the WPCS. This is a great honour and we are
delighted that Tony should be
recognised in this way. Congratulations Tony.

HEADLINERS IN HORSE
AND HOUND
Maurice & Pauline Clark of Colliyers are
delighted that two of the ponies
they have bred received coverage in H&H in
March. Colliyers Raffles made
headlines of "Raffles proves a smooth operator"
and Robert Walker is quoted
as saying "the pony had a smile on its face and
looked to be enjoying
himself from the minute he walked into the
ring". Raffles, ridden by Yasmin
Ingham, took the Lee Smith home-produced supreme
and the Northern Winter
title at Ponies (UK) winter championships. Two
weeks earlier Colliyers
Mollycoddle, ridden by five-year-old Millie
Manners, was featured in H&H
having won the first of the Heritage M&M RIHS
qualifiers for LR ponies at
BSPS Scotland winter championships. She
qualified last year at BSPS Area
3B.
I was pleased to read in the same edition that
another pony, Farmbrook
Quince, bred by David Brooks took both the
junior and supreme titles in the
2007 side-saddle performance championships.

WELSH
CLASSES AT ORSETT SHOW
Thanks to the efforts of Jessie Apicella not
only have Welsh classes have
been reinstated at the Orsett Show, which is
held in September, but it is to
be a bronze medal show. For more information,
please contact Jessie on
01277 811044.

RULES AT OUR SHOWS
We are not trying to spoil your fun, but we do
need to remind you that we
run our shows under WPCS rules (except in the
cases of ridden classes
affiliated to another organisation such as NPS
or P(UK)). A full list of
rules for judges and exhibitors can be found on
the WPCS website but we feel
that two should be brought to your attention.
2.12 The use of any artificial aid (e.g.
plastic bags, excessive use of
whips, drinks cans, etc.) to excite the animal
being shown is not acceptable
and may be subject to penalty, including being
asked to leave the ring.
and
6.7.8 Substitution of handlers in Welsh
classes is not permitted without
the permission of the Judge.
